Hail is created in two different ways. The first way is in an intends thunder storm. The second way is when the water shock freezes in the cloud. Hail forms when thunderstorm updrafts are strong enough to carry water droplets above the freezing level. This freezing process forms a hailstone which can grow as water freezes onto it. Finally the hailstone becomes too heavy for the updrafts to support it and it falls to the ground.
